Metallic Bodice
The under workings of this metallic lace bodice are a wonderful juxtaposition to the dark yet frothy exterior.
The garment, though it is lace and shine, has a somber feel to it. To my eye, it relays the sense of all business. The Warren Company that made the stays, at the very least, manufactured and printed the fabric with their logo. This pop of red adds a visual rhythm in an otherwise tonal image. Stays were meant to support and shape a woman’s body, and prior to the advent of these boned garments the presence of shaping boning was referred to as a ’pair of bodies’.
