This canary silk lapel costume has a label that is clearly marked “Hr Svanholm Barberaren”. Set Svanholm sang as a baritone in this performance of Figaro in the Barber of Seville in 1930. But his career was that of a tenor with the Swedish Royal Opera. He went on tho serve as the head of the Swedish Royal Opera from 1956 to 1963. This costume is fashioned from a deep inky blue velvet and strikingly paired with this other worldly canary yellow silk velvet. The bronze braiding both adorns the jacket and unites the two colors. The twisted navy and cream braid that serves as the hanging loop is another detail that would never been seen by the public.
The red string is everything. It is so nonchalantly tied as to be for a tag or something but for my purposes it is visual gold. Even its wind blown demeanor is almost calligraphic in nature as it punctuates the things that make this garment special, adding the red to finish off the primary color trio.
