This canary silk cuff costume has a label that is clearly marked “Hr Svanholm Barberaren”. Set Svanholm sang as a baritone in this performance of Figaro in the Barber of Seville in 1930, but his career was that of a tenor with the Swedish Royal Opera. He went on tho serve as the head of the Swedish Royal Opera from 1956 to 1963. This costume is fashioned from a deep inky blue velvet and strikingly paired with this otherworldly canary yellow silk velvet. The bronze braiding both adorns the jacket and unites the two colors.

The red string is everything. It is so nonchalantly tied as to be for a tag or something, but for my purposes it is visual gold. Even its wind blown demeanor is almost calligraphic in nature as it punctuates the things that make this garment special, adding the red to finish off the primary color trio. This image is a second view of this coat. The bright yellow silk is both dirty and threadbare, and this state of disrepair adds another very beautiful aspect to the image.
