Citizen of Verona
Romeo and Juliet Serei Prokofiev Op.64 (1934-1940)
Choreography by Choo San Goh, resident Choreographer of the Washington Ballet
Costume and decor design Design by Alain Vaes
after the original design by Henry Herman
In this production, all but the costumes for Romeo and Juliet were borrowed, along with the sets, from the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre. The costumes of the star crossed lovers were designed by French artist Alain Vaes.
The vest is worn by a corps member whose character is a Citizen of the City of Verona. The production of this full-length ballet marked the fruition of a long held desire for founder E. Virginia Williams, who passed away without ever having seen the production .
