Burnt Umber Velvet Vest
This burnt umber velvet vest is likely constructed in a way that was typical of the time, but the crisp blend of cream cotton or linen and rich velvet creates rhythmic charm.
The pinking shear edging of the stay really pops against the burnt umber velvet and it is punctuated by the velvet seam edges being encased by hand-stitched linen. All of the architecture of this garment is sewn into a cream silk ‘pocket’ at the bottom. This treatment prevented the bottom hem from rolling and expose the boning. The neck and armholes are lined with a confetti-like material and the holes for the laces or hooks of the vest have a long brown thread running stitch.
