The gowns from this collection come from a group of two hundred dresses that had been owned by a cabaret singer. The group of two hundred represent only one decade in her life as a performer. She is now in her 90s and lives in New Hampshire.
With her dresses, I wanted to move them in such a way that the compositions more accurately reflected their significance than if they had been just photographically documented. The wear and tear speak of a life lived in these garments. The structure of many of the dresses is as intriguing as the dresses themselves.
